The art of bringing imagination to life

Apr 23, 2024

In the world of artistic creation, some individuals stand out with a passion that shines not only through their work but also in their words. Julie Telot, Senior Graphic Designer at Circus, embodies this spirit of artistic expression. With an established career in graphic design, she followed her heart to explore new creative avenues, choosing clay as her medium of choice—a passion that emerged after the first lockdown in 2020.

Her role at Circus is to bring ideas to life. “I provide a visual solution to the client’s request, but it always comes from the heart and emotion,” she says. This emotion-driven approach is also reflected in her exploration of pottery and sculpture.

Deeply moved by the wreck of the MV Wakashio in July 2020 off the southeast coast of Mauritius and the devastating impact of marine pollution, Julie found her first inspiration in creating clay mangroves. She transformed this tragedy into a form of artistic expression. Despite the challenges of firing her creations, she persevered with determination.

Rather than feeling discouraged, Julie embraced the opportunity to turn her dream into reality. With a mix of luck and determination, she acquired a kiln and a pottery wheel, laying the foundation for her new artistic journey. “I believe that when you are intentional about something, the universe aligns to help you achieve it,” she says enthusiastically.

Her artistic journey took her to Himachal Pradesh, India, where she undertook an intensive pottery training program. For six months, she immersed herself in the ancient art of pottery making, broadening her artistic horizons and gaining a new perspective on creation. “It’s a gift to be able to learn and develop a skill where you had no prior knowledge. The confidence it has given me is immense! I’m grateful to Circus for understanding this need.”

Julie continues to explore other art forms, such as painting and Chinese calligraphy. For her, art is a fluid, evolving process, free from pressure and time constraints. “As long as I can learn, play, and experiment, I am happy and grateful,” she shares.

So, what’s next for Julie Telot? “Everything and nothing! Play always—that’s my philosophy. And to always stay curious, because that’s the essence of it all. I have no end vision.” She continues her artistic journey with an open mind and unwavering determination, always guided by her passion for creation.

For her, each new experience and exploration fuels her creativity and perception of the world. Her story reminds us of the importance of following our passions and letting our imagination run free—no matter where it takes us.
