Eclosia collects one ton of electronic waste for recycling

At the headquarters of Eclosia Corporate Services, Eclosia Technological Services, Avipro, and Pick N Eat, March witnessed an unprecedented mobilization in favor of electronic waste recycling. Phones, computers, microwaves, televisions, air conditioning units, toasters, PC keyboards, heaters, children's toys, cables, batteries, and light bulbs—amounting to just over 1,000 kilograms—were collected as part of an initiative led by the Sustainability department.
“The employees warmly welcomed this initiative, and the results were impressive. These potentially hazardous waste items will now be dismantled and recycled with the help of our partner, BEM Recycling,” said Yashvin Neehaul, Environmental Sustainability Manager. “This will contribute to environmental preservation, and we are already considering a second collection later this year.”
This campaign, aimed at gathering electronic waste from both office premises and employees’ homes, is part of a broader approach to environmental preservation and responsible resource management. Indeed, electronic waste often contains harmful substances such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, which can contaminate soil and groundwater if improperly disposed of in illegal dumps.
“The combined collections resulted in a total of 1,035 kg—the approximate weight of eight baby elephants! Thanks to this initiative, these waste items will not end up in landfills or illegal dumps. A big thank you to everyone for their involvement,” highlighted Thierry Malabar, Project Manager at BEM Recycling.
Recycling provides a solution by ensuring the safe recovery of these hazardous materials, thereby reducing their harmful impact on our ecosystem. Moreover, electronic devices contain a wealth of valuable materials, including metals such as gold, silver, and copper, as well as plastics and glass.
By recycling these devices, we not only protect our environment but also reduce our dependence on natural resources and minimize the damage caused by their extraction. Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste categories globally. By proactively recycling these devices, we help curb their accumulation in landfills, preserve valuable landfill space, and contribute to more responsible waste management.
