The new CTE logo: where innovation meets tradition

Sep 25, 2023

Charles Telfair Education (CTE) is embracing change with a new logo that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation. Designed by Adrien Hon Fat, a Designer at Circus and a former student of the Charles Telfair Institute, this new symbol marks a significant milestone in the institution’s evolution.

The redesigned logo retains the essence of the previous one by preserving the emblematic shield— a familiar element that evokes CTE’s long-standing history and reputation. However, it also incorporates modern elements that reflect the institution’s forward-looking vision.

The new shade of blue is fresh and contemporary, a welcome departure from the generic blue often associated with education. It embodies CTE’s modernity and open-mindedness while remaining rooted in its educational heritage.

The most distinctive feature of the new logo is the "T" with a golden tassel at its tip. This subtle detail recalls the graduation cap, symbolizing academic achievement and success. Additionally, the tassel’s color can be adapted depending on the logo’s application, highlighting the versatility of CTE’s new visual identity.

Adrien Hon Fat explains that this transformation was not taken lightly. “Preserving the old while introducing the new required days of careful thought and experimentation. The final result is a visual identity that balances seriousness with youthfulness, tradition with innovation—perfectly reflecting CTE’s mission,” he says. With this new logo, Charles Telfair Education embraces the future while honoring its past, ready to continue shaping tomorrow’s education.

Jeremy Charoux, Executive Director of CTE, explains the rationale behind this rebranding by emphasizing the institution’s growth and diversification over the past 25 years. He highlights prestigious partnerships with Curtin University in Australia and North and South Metropolitan TAFE, which give CTE a unique status in Mauritius.

Furthermore, accreditation by the Higher Education Commission for awarding local degrees has enabled CTE to launch two Bachelor of Commerce programs and recently acquire Vatel Mauritius, a renowned business school specializing in tourism and hospitality. This strategic acquisition supports CTE’s vision of contributing to the development of the tourism industry— a key pillar of the Mauritian economy.

Jeremy Charoux also underscores the crucial role of the Charles Telfair Leadership Academy, the island’s leading corporate training center, which offers various courses for mid- and senior-level executives in collaboration with local businesses. Additionally, the Charles Telfair Centre serves as a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary knowledge-sharing and debate platform in Mauritius. The CTC provides a secure space where dominant narratives can be challenged, and innovative ideas and perspectives can be explored.
